No UK statute or FCA rule found in this review bars individuals from holding privacy coins or registered firms from offering them: in Consultation Paper CP25/41 of December 2025 the FCA said its crypto remit is currently limited to overseeing how cryptoassets are promoted and to anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing and proliferation financing standards, and the admissions, disclosures and market abuse rules it proposes contain no rule on privacy coins. The same paper says the government laid the draft Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (Cryptoassets) Regulations 2025 before Parliament in December 2025 to bring cryptoassets within the FCA's regulatory remit. Since 1 September 2023, when regulation 5 (cryptoasset transfers) of the Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 2022 came into force, registered firms have had to collect, verify and share information on the sender and recipient of crypto transfers. As exchange behaviour rather than law, Kraken stopped Monero trading for UK clients in November 2021 while leaving withdrawals open; the alleged text of a client letter, posted online and reported by ForkLog, said this was to comply with UK regulatory requirements. No rule aimed at mixers was found in the instruments checked, and this review did not run a wider search for UK mixer prosecutions.

Owner details since 1 Sep 2023
Since 1 September 2023, UK cryptoasset firms may request originator or beneficiary information from their own customer for transfers to or from unhosted wallets, deciding on a risk basis, and must not make the cryptoassets available to the beneficiary if information they requested is not provided.
Regulation 64G of the Money Laundering Regulations 2017, inserted by the Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 2022, lets a firm request the information from its customer for any unhosted wallet transfer, having regard to its risk assessments, the purpose and value of the transfer and any linked transfers, how often the customer transfers and how long the relationship has lasted; the GBP 800 figure in regulation 64G(1)(b), substituted for EUR 1,000 from 30 June 2026 by S.I. 2026/621, regulation 33, applies only to the fuller originator details a firm may request when its customer is the beneficiary, so withdrawals carry no threshold. Industry guidance from the Joint Money Laundering Steering Group (Part II, Annex 22-I, paragraphs 34 to 36) says firms should obtain further information where their risk assessment shows higher risk and, in higher-risk cases, consider authorising a transfer only if control of the unhosted wallet is reasonably established, for example by a micro deposit or a cryptographic signature. The FCA's Travel Rule statement of 17 August 2023 does not mention unhosted wallets.
Privacy coins and wallets: The JMLSG guidance for cryptoasset firms lists privacy coins among higher-risk factors and suggests limits on the total value of privacy coins that may be held, stored, transferred or exchanged (paragraphs 22.34 and 22.41), but no UK rule found bars transfers to privacy wallets.

Exchanges and their restrictions
The 14 exchanges on this site, with the 32 spot markets they list for the seven coins, as checked on 13 Oct 2026. The exchange data records where each listing is restricted as text, so this page quotes each passage that names the United Kingdom, and marks the cells it comes from. An exchange with no such passage has no restriction for the United Kingdom on record here, which does not mean that it is licensed there or open to its residents. A listing is not an endorsement.

- ZEC Restricted Gemini's UK-facing notice and legal disclosures also bar ZEC trading for customers in Europe (and the UK, per the UK notice), where Gemini ceased operations on 6 Apr 2026
Self-hosted wallets for the seven coins
The nine wallets on the Wallets page that hold at least one of the seven coins, with the coins and platforms each supports. The wallet data does not record where each wallet is offered, so this list is the same on every country page, and the United Kingdom's own rules, set out above, apply to their use. A listing is not an endorsement.
