    Regulation Fixed Brazil

Brazil's deadline for existing virtual asset firms to apply for central bank authorisation

Article 88 of Resolução BCB nº 520, in force since 2 February 2026, gives firms already providing virtual asset services 270 days from that date to apply for authorisation, which runs to 30 October 2026 when the first day is not counted (the date the original Article 91 also used), and firms that do not apply in time must stop within 30 days; Resolução BCB nº 589 of 23 September 2026 did not change this deadline. The same resolution requires listing policies to bar assets whose features favour fraud or crime, such as assets designed to favour money laundering or terrorist financing by facilitating anonymity (Article 64), and bars providers from using mechanisms that hinder the detection of crimes, such as mixers that hide the authors or beneficiaries of transactions (Article 90).

Expected
A deadline or latest date that a law sets. The step itself can come sooner, and deadlines are sometimes missed.
Targeted
A date that a project or organisation has said it is aiming for. It can move.

Types of date

Regulation
Laws and rules: when they apply, and the deadlines they set for firms, regulators and governments.
Standards
Meetings and decisions of international standard-setters, such as the FATF.
Court
Trials, hearings and rulings.
Sanctions
Sanctions imposed or lifted.
Protocol
Network upgrades, launches and decisions by the projects themselves.
Market
New markets and products, such as an exchange-traded fund.
Incident
Flaws, exploits and other security events.

Countdowns

A countdown is the number of whole days from today to the date, both in UTC. Your browser recounts them when the page opens and after each midnight UTC, and the page itself is rebuilt every hour, when a date that has passed moves to Past events. Meetings over several days count down to their first day and stay under Coming up until their last.

Where a date applies

Each entry names the jurisdiction it applies in, or Global for the FATF's international standards. Regulation entries link to that jurisdiction's rules on privacy coins and mixers on the Access and rules page.

Sources

Every entry links the documents it rests on. Primary sources come first: laws and official journals, regulators, courts, the FATF, block explorers and the projects' own announcements. Press reports add to them, and an entry marked Reported relies on press or other secondary reports for some of what it says. Each entry gives the day it was checked. The list was last reviewed for new dates on 16 Oct 2026.

Information only, not legal or investment advice. Dates move: check the linked sources before relying on one.
